Last night I ran around solo in Reikland for a couple hours and had about as much fun as I had in Caledor a few nights before. I’d like to think I’ve been doing so well lately because of skill but I have a sneaky feeling it’s mostly due to how competitive Squig Herders are in a post-1.6 world and the fact that I have some pretty hawt gear (915 Ballistic, 640 Wounds, and resists in the 600-800 range unbuffed). It also comes down to my spec which gives me many useful tools to solo with (longer QS range, longer duration abilities, and a DoT that cuts healing in half).

One thing I’ve really come to terms with lately is eating dirt. Even though I’m running around solo, most other people do not and I’ve been rolled by mid to large sized groups quite frequently. Strangely, I’m okay with it. Dying means nothing in WAR except a quick trip back to the warcamp. I don’t even pay the 20 silver to remove my 3-minute wounds debuff most of the time because it takes me more than 3-minutes to find someone worth attacking.

I am loving solo when I can find people to fight. Without backup, I’ve had to learn the lay of the land so I can use it to my advantage. I have to lure people away from the main traffic areas. I have to use all my abilities to their fullest. The strategy of a 1v1 or 1v2 is just so much more interesting compared to a 20v20 imho.

I’ve also started keeping my own little book of grudges. I constantly seek revenge against people who have beaten me in 1v1 or large groups that have chased me from one end of the map to the other with 10 of their buddies just because they were horny for a kill. I absolutely love picking off those people when they don’t have their friends around to save them. Muahahaha. If I were an outsider looking at all this, I’d probably say, “Wow, Snafzg is a bit off-kilter!” but hey, all’s fair in love an WAR.

Last night I ran into a WH while we were both mounted. I kited him a bit, dismounted and summoned a pet. He dismounted and insta-stealthed. I kited him back some more, timing how long it would be before he ran out of AP. Unfortunately, I stumbled into an Engie. I started fighting him and kiting but the WH caught up to me. Bummer. I almost had the Engie dead but then a WL pounced me from up on the keep walls and there was no way I could survive three DPS. I wrote down all their names!

A while later I stumbled upon the WH in a very similar situation (even close to the same spot). This time I managed to get my pet on him before he stealthed by kiting him around an object so he couldn’t see me dismount and then landed a few nice DoTs. I was kiting him nicely when a WP joined the party.  I put everything I had into the WH and finally managed to kill him while getting to 50% myself. I went for a potion but I didn’t have any. Ugh. I started kiting some more and but my arrows and pet weren’t enough to hurt this WP so I started luring him toward a cliff overlooking a river. The WP got a little cocky and chased me while he was maintaining about 80% health against my now 30%. I awaited the last few seconds of my morale cooldowns and then punted him off the cliff where I could focus fire on him for a few seconds unhindered. He put on a HoT and came for me but didn’t pay enough attention to his health. At about 25% he started a big heal and I interrupted him with a silence. Bye bye Mr. WP.

That was a total blast. I managed to win about 10 more 1v1 fights last night and died in a few as well. I was rolled by groups enough to give myself a kill to death ratio of about 50/50, but it was worth it given the awesomeness of the 1v1s.

Unfortunately, all this was taking place in Reikland and the Chaos oRvR rewards are not going to help me in the slightest. My renown is coming in about as fast as it would if I was focusing on BOs but the influence is slow. Sure, I get 100 inf per solo kill but I could get 200-400 for a keep or BO. I wish they would boost inf from players (double?) to encourage more PvP instead of objective swapping.
