We’re not terribly popular

Death Knights. We are the alt class, it seems.

Spinksville has a bit of napkin math looking at overall class representation in raids. Now, it’s a pretty small sample, specifically limited to the 100 first Professor Putricide 25-man kills worldwide. But if we can extrapolate the math, the theory seems to indicate that Death Knights are among the least popular classes for raiding, at a mere 8% representation shared with warlocks and hunters. Paladins are, again, top of the heap at almost double our numbers. Along with Druid, Priests and Shaman trailing Pallies by a few percentage points.

It really is a good time to be a healer-capable hybrid, it seems. Probably a lot of  the reason for these statistics being that the top 4 classes can all dps or heal, which are where most of your raid spots go, and 2 of the 4 of those classes can, furthermore, tank.

Whichever way you look at it, though, Death Knights aren’t seeing all that much raiding action. According to recent Arena data-mining, they aren’t seeing much high-end PVP either. Yet the class remains the second most popular in WoW. It seems, then, that perhaps everybody has a Death Knight alt, languishing in, perhaps, heroics and battlegrounds as opposed to raids and arenas.

We can definitely come to the conclusion that very few people out there actually liked the class enough to switch mains to it. At the end of the day, it seems we’re a bit of a gimmick. A bit of a hit and miss.  And it’s something of a tragedy seeing the once mighty hand of the Ebon Blade reduced to little more than an oddity,  the bulk of our number filled out with alts and bads.
