So I Finally Decided To Respec My BW

I’m not really a person who spends a lot of time researching their characters speclines, in fact I’m the complete opposite, I just tend to go with the flow. This is probably the second time I’ve respeced this character, since I started leveling Laminar, the first being after someone suggested I acquire Playing With Fire from the Path Of Immolation, due to it’s 50% heal debuff on targets for 10 seconds.

But recently I’ve just not been happy with my damage output, it just doesn’t seem to be climbing as it should. Now I tend to be single target player. Kill one player at a time, unless I’m trying to overwhelm the opposition healers in keep situations, using AOE.

So I decided to change tack and try out the full Path Of Immolation and really consider my tactic choices. Which meant dumping my tactics and getting in a new load. Now it’s the tactics which really make a nice difference in this line.

So I started out with adding the tactic Ignition, which adds to the Ignite spell (Elemental Damage) a debuff component, which when the path is fully spec’d is -349 Corporeal Resistance for 9 seconds.

Next I added to the Boiling Blood spell (Corporeal Damage), the complementary tactic Fuel To The Fire, which increases the will power debuff from 111 to 333 for 10 seconds. It’s currently the second spell in my chain, since its damage takes advantage of the debuff of Ignite. Which I’ve just realised needs to be fired off before my debuff, since the damage of Boiling Blood only takes place at the end of this spells 10 second duration, which would be beyond the duration of my corporeal debuff on Ignite. DOH. I may need to add one more spell (Probably Sear) between Boiling Blood and Ignite, to make sure the damage component of Boiling Blood lands when it would be most effective.

I also acquired the spell Withering Heat (Corporeal Damage), which is currently spec’d to do 2188 over 6 seconds (With a 40% snare), excluding crits of course. Again this takes advantage of the corporeal debuff and when finished should still be within the duration of the corporeal damage debuff.

Currently my final tactic at level 35 is the intelligence buff Endless Knowledge, which adds 140 to my total. Now it’s this final tactic slot which is causing me the biggest dilemma. At the moment I’m struggling to get my Combustion up and keep it up during the fight. Now I used to get around this, because I spec’d the Nova spell from the Path Of Incineration, which gave me 40 Combustion, which when combined with Sear (25 Combustion) got me to 65 combustion very quickly. At the moment I have only Sear available, which is on a 5 second cooldown. However there is a tactic called Smoldering Embers, which when used gives a 25% change for certain spells (Boiling Blood, Ignite and Slow Boil), to restart, which would also give me an obligatory combustion uplift.

Now the initial signs are good, even taking into account my slight fubar with the timings above, the damage has climbed, along with the deathblow count, given a sample size of about 5 – 7 scenarios on Sunday. So I’ll try to give a more accurate appraisal in a week or so.
